Sometimes you have to live with your mistakes. Sometimes you get a second chance.
Sometimes I reread stuff I liked from a long long time ago and not understand why younger me liked it so much. This is definitely not one of those cases. I admittedly only lurked in the Static Shock fandom but I’m fairly certain that this is one of the classics, and with good reason. I don’t want to spoil it but it’s heartbreaking and yet pretty much perfect for the holiday season. <33

So I’m talking to my brother last night, and I’m telling him about Young Justice, and we get on the topic of the fact that Richie won’t be in it, and it makes me kind of sad, and he’s like, “Well someone has to protect Dakota.”
I love my brother.

Fifty years is an incredible amount of time to stay married to one person, but it’s most definitely not hard when you’re married to your best friend, like Richie married his.
Just like every morning, Richie’s alarm goes off at 6:30 to signal the beginning of a new day, and it’s been like this just about every single day since he graduated college; since he got a job at Wayne Industries.
As Richie quickly finds out, today is nothing like every other day at all; today Richie discovers fifty years of marriage has come to an end because the body beside him that used to supply him with so much warmth is no longer—the body beside him is motionless and cold, presumably having gone that way in the middle of the night.
Richie’s breathing shakes as he squeezes his eyes closed and his entire body trembles.
